Audio formats, downloads and limitations
Which audio files can I clean?
Choose an MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC or OGG recording. The browser checks the file contents; support depends on the container and codec, not just the extension. If decoding fails, try converting a copy to MP3 or WAV. Use a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari with AAC encoding support.
What will I download?
You receive the full recording as an M4A file with mono AAC audio at 48 kHz. Stereo channels are mixed before processing. Keep the original if you need separate speakers or stereo placement. Video files with a compatible video track can produce an MP4; see video audio noise removal.
The tool applies one balanced noise reduction setting. It does not normalise loudness, so set final levels after cleaning. Process speech before adding music or effects, which the speech model may also suppress.
Compare the original and cleaned audio
After processing, switch between Original and Cleaned to hear the same passage. Click or drag the waveform to move through the recording. Listen for natural speech as well as a quieter background. If your browser cannot play the original format, you can still play and download the processed result, but comparison is unavailable.
What can noise removal fix?
DeepFilterNet 3 is a speech enhancement model. It reduces sounds that differ from speech; it does not identify a particular speaker. Listen for clear words, breaths and word endings, as well as a quieter background.
- Other people speaking may remain because they are speech too.
- Speech distorted by wind hitting the microphone, clipping or heavy noise cannot reliably be restored.
- Room echo is a separate problem; we do not promise echo removal or music separation.
- Processing is lossy and may make a difficult recording sound thin, watery or metallic. Keep the original and compare before publishing.
Long recordings and failed processing
MP3, AAC and indexed MP4/M4A files can be read in blocks. Formats requiring full decoding, such as WAV or FLAC, may use much more memory. Processing time and the largest file you can use depend on the recording length and your device. Keep this tab open. If memory runs out, use a shorter source or a copy in MP3 or M4A format.
